Leeds Castle has more than 900 years of history, the first was a basic stone fortification developed by Robert de Crevecoeur, which filled in as a base in Norman invasions into England. In the thirteenth century, it came under the control of King Edward I, for whom it became his favourite residence; in the sixteenth century, Henry VIII used it as a dwelling for his first spouse, Catherine of Aragon.
